KOLKATA: In the article nos. 26 & 27, we saw how to how to evaluate the current status in different areas of your life and test that status on Life-Focus Triangle. Today, we will get more insight into it. Remember, this article has to be read in continuation of Part 26 & 27.

Once we have evaluated the current status in different walks of life and analysed it with the help of Life-Focus Triangle, it is time to check where is our focus.

Check your ‘Focus’

Have a list of different life aspects, such as, family, career & finance, health, friendship, recreation/ tourism, spiritual, contribution or any other area, close to your heart. Close your eyes for a minute, take a deep breath and try to identify, which area is most important to you and why. Then try to identify, how much time you are giving to your areas of focus in your current life style. Maintain a time log for a week and tabulate the approximate hours given to these activities over one week. See how these are compared with your ranking of what is most important to you.

Identify the gap between your aspirations and your focus. Now you can understand where your focus should be and where it is now. You are the outcome of your choices and if you continue to make choices as ever, you will continue to remain the same, as you are now. If you want to achieve happiness by striking balance in your priority areas of life, you have to simply focus upon the desired areas of your life, not the areas of your liking.

Decide to set goals in all walks of life

Normally, whenever we talk about goal setting, people talk about financial goals or health goals. Here is a word of caution for you all. Individual goals focus just on a specific area of life and may neglect many other important areas of our lives. Although, we may succeed in achieving our goal in one or two walks of our lives, but we won’t get happiness, as other areas will remain neglected. It is therefore necessary to set goals in all the pillars of happiness in life.

Balance in different facets of your life is not a matter of your choice. It is a necessity. You need to organise your time utilisation patterns, so that you get more time for doing the works, you wanted to do since long, and to spend quality time with your loved ones.

Have you ever seen any juggler either live or on television? What does he do? He balances many balls by throwing the same into air one by one and does not allow any ball to fall on the ground. He has to keep all the balls afloat. Different aspects of life have to be managed by us just like jugglers. We have to take care of all aspects of life simultaneously without letting any aspect of life to go down. When a juggler balances different balls in the air, the balance is not optional. It is a question of survival. If any one ball falls on the ground, the show is over.

We also can make our life by our own choices. We have to set goals in different walks of life and work upon all of them simultaneously like a juggler. And in the process, G.O.P.T.A. will help us a lot as whatever we will be doing will be towards the direction of our goals (the main goal being attaining a reasonable balance among different walks of life); our thinking will be positive and we will not allow anybody else to do our leg-pulling; and we will take goals-oriented actions to strike the desirable balance and achieving goals in different walks of life.

(In the next article, we will further develop this theory for your benefit and I will present before you some very crucial points to maintain reasonable balance between different walks of life. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
