NEW DELHI: I have been many times to the iconic Vigayan Bhawan in New Delhi to attend the different kinds of functions with the cabinet ministers in attendance. But this time, it was very special to me. My alma mater, Jamia Millia Islamia, a central university was chosen for the National Gaurav Award 2017 as the best university of the country. It is given every year in different fields to the achievers which have an impactful contribution in the nation building in their own ways. This award has been constituted by the Indian Bravehearts, a national level non-governmental organization.

To receive this award on behalf of the university, Registrar A. P SiddiquI, IPS was present. Dean of the faculties of Humanities and Languages, Prof. Wahajuddin Alvi, Mr. Ahmad Azeem, PRO of Jamia, Dr. Asif Umar, Assistant Prof. Hindi Department and many former and current students of Jamia were also present.

This award holds immense value in this sense that it has been given in recognition to Jamia as a great learning abode and its impactful role in nation building and for upholding the nationalist values in the best possible ways.

This award has just come after another important award to its honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmad as the Eminent Vice Chancellor award just a week before. It shows that Jamia as a great learning center has carved its own niche.

It is no doubt the leadership of the VC deserves the most praise that has steered Jamia well on the path of excellence since he took the charge of the university. It is his constant effort to take it to a new height finally bearing the desired fruits.
