Karnataka By-Election 2018 Results: Congress-JD(S) Alliance Wins 4 Out 5 Seats

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Congress state president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Tuesday said that they will contest the next Lok Sabha elections together against the BJP. 

BENGALURU: Congress-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka today won 4 out of 5 seats where by-elections were held on Saturday. The three Lok Sabha seats where elections were held are Bellari, Shimoga and Mandya.

The two assembly seats are Jamkhandi and Ramanagara.Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said he was confident of a better result in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress party has tweeted that the Karnataka bypoll results are “just a teaser for what is in store for the BJP next year” when Lok Sabha elections will be held.

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said he was confident of winning at least 20 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s wife Anitha won the Ramanagara assembly seat on the JD-S ticket by a huge margin of 1,09,137 votes.

Congress candidate V S Ugrappa won Ballari Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,43,161 votes. BJP’s BY Raghavendra won Shimoga parliamentary seat with a margin of 52148 votes.The Shimoga seat was vacated by Yeddyurappa on his election to the assembly seat in the June elections.

In the Jamkhandi assembly seat, Congress candidate Anand Siddu Nyamagouda from defeated BJP’s Shrikant Kulkarni by 39,480 votes.

In 2014, the BJP had won 17 of Karnataka’s 28 parliamentary seats. The Congress won 9 and HD Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal Secular 2 seats.The BJP is currently the single largest party in the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha with 104 seats.

BJP state unit president B S Yeddyurappa claimed that the by-election results once again proved that the Congress and the JD(S) were experts in hatching conspiracies.

Senior Congress leader and Minister DK Shivakumar said that people want change and thanked the people of five constituencies for showing faith in Congress-JD(S).
