NEW DELHI: Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday assured that the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) will be conducted in 20 languages.
The CTET examination will be held in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bangla, Garo, Gujarati, Kanada, Khasi, Malyalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan and Urdu.
The Central Board of Secondary Education, which conducts the test mandatory for teacher appointments in central government schools and private institutions affiliated to the board, had limited the language options to Hindi, Sanskrit and English.
The examination is for the recruitment of teachers in schools under the Centre and will be conducted on 16 September. The examination will be conducted across 92 cities in the country.
The online application process will begin from 22 June and go on till 17 July. The application fees can be submitted till 12 July.
The test is mandatory for appointment to the Kendriya Vidyalayas as well as private institutions affiliated to the CBSE.
The test is divided into two papers one for those applicants who wish to teach Classes 1 to 5 and the other for those opting to teach Classes 6 to 8.
The test has two compulsory language sections. While the first is to decide proficiency in the chosen medium of instruction, the second is for communication and comprehension.
