India on Tuesday welcomed the historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, calling it a positive development.
SINGAPORE, JUNE 12: U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met face-to-face Tuesday morning for their highly anticipated summit.
After the summit the leaders signed a “comprehensive” document, promising a new relationship between the nations.
Donald Trump patted Kim’s arm as they stood on red carpet and exchanged a few words before turning to face the gathered press.
“I feel really great. We’re going to have a great discussion and will be tremendously successful,” the US president said.
Trump said at the conclusion of the landmark summit. “People are going to be very impressed. People are going to be very happy.”
The meeting produced several great photos, but few specific commitments on denuclearization.The document also made no mention of the international sanctions that have crippled North Korea’s economy for pursuing its nuclear weapons programme.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes the holding of the Summit between the leaders of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States as an important milestone in the advancement of sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in vowed to write a “new history” with North Korea, praising North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s decision to hold a summit with the US in Singapore.
