KOLKATA: In the article nos. 26, 27 & 28, we saw how to how to evaluate the current status in different areas of your life and test that status on Life-Focus Triangle and realign your ‘Focus’ towards the desired areas of your life. Today, we will get more insight into it. Remember, this article has to be read in continuation of Part 26, 27 & 28.

We know that our success & happiness levels are outcome of our choices. So, we have to choose to set goals in different walks of life and work upon all of them simultaneously like a juggler.

When we talk about goals, first thing people start to think is about their career and finance. I have a soft suggestion for you. You may like to CHOOSE to keep the family goals at the top of the list.

Family and personal life

We are social creatures and a family is the basic unit of the society. You may like to choose to give this area of life first priority, as whatever you do, your family is always in the back of your mind. If you are doing your job or business, your basic desire is to earn money. Look deep inside yourself and you will find that you do this mainly for your family. If you want to build a good house, you want to enjoy living with your family. If you want to buy some luxurious item, you want to enjoy it with family. Family is always in your sub-conscious mind. I want you to first practise remembering this thing. If you cannot make this impression upon your sub-conscious mind, the goal setting and apparent success in other areas of life is meaningless; whatever big it may look. Without this, practically nobody can think of achieving a reasonable balance between different walks of life, which is a must for success happiness.

Imagine, you are enjoying your family life after five years from now. Now visualise how it looks. What is the size and shape of your family; what is your lifestyle; in which house you are living and where; what is the size of your house; what are your relations with your spouse and your children; etc.

Let us introspect our relationship with family members

Now check your relationship with family members by answering some simple questions.

1. Do I give sufficient time to all of my family members? (Yes / No)

2. Am I working upon the mindset of my children? Am I trying to inculcate best values in them? Am I guiding them to use G.O.P.T.A. in each walks of their life? (Yes / No)

3. Do I take care of my parents and give them sufficient time? (Yes / No)

4. Which of my works create tension in the family? Can I do something to improve the situation? (Yes / No)

5. Do I have some goals for my family and whether I have shared these goals with my family? Are these goals accepted & approved by all the family members? (Yes / No)

6. Do I know what are the individual goals of my family members and whether I am contributing to enable them to achieve those goals? (Yes / No)

7. Are my family members enabling me in moving towards my goals? (Yes / No)

8. Are my family members happy and satisfied with whatever I do for them either in the nature of spending the time with them or taking care of them financially? (Yes / No)

9. Am I giving extra care to any other walk of my life like career or friends at the cost of family or whether my family members think that I am doing so? If yes, what can be done to improve the situation? (Yes / No)

Check how many ‘yes’ you have got out of 9. Ideally, it should be 9 out of 9, no exception.

Keep on asking these questions to yourself at regular interval, say at every 3 or 6 months. This will show you whether in pursuit of success in life, you are giving FIRST priority to your family or not.

[Caution: If you are thinking to leave this article without ticking Yes/ No on all the above 9 points, it sounds to me that you have consciously chosen to ignore this area of your life. As to me, whatever busy you are in your life, you MUST have to choose to give your family goals a top priority, without which, attaining reasonable balance in different walks of life is practically unachievable. It is a valuable learning gained by me from the participants of my signature workshops on maintaining balance among different walks of life.]

(In the next article, we will further develop this theory for your benefit and I will present before you some very crucial points in other areas of life also. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
