Has the World Changed since the Infamous Vietnam War (1954-75) Brutally Imposed by America?

NEW DELHI: It was 2006 when the Penguin Books India approached me to translate a book from English to Hindi. It was a very famous one, named, “Good Muslims, Bad Muslims” by a scholarly writer, Mahmoud Mamdani from the Columbia University.

The title soon attracted my attention as it had enticed the publisher to get it translated in Hindi, so a large number of Indians could also read this book. But what was in it which made it so popular?

As I think over of the content of this book after so many years, it still looks me fresh as it has been written of late, though, the book was written in the context of the Afghanistan and Vietnam wars, which were bluntly imposed by belligerent and imprudent American Presidents in their own times.

Afghanistan War is still vivid in our memory because it is still going on with full intensity. Almost on daily basis, we get the reports of the casualties there either of innocent civilians, soldiers (both Afghani and American) and others.

This so called war on terror was nothing but just a kind of Crusade against Muslims all over the world. America led the same kinds of wars in other countries as per its convenience and economic and political interests like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen and other Muslim countries. It killed many dictators like Saddam Husain, Colonel Gaddafi and deposed Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.

The author had argued that if things went against the wishes and interests of America, it did not ever hesitate for a single moment in labeling Muslims bad and its resident countries as the safe haven of terrorism and punishing them in the most barbaric ways. And, if things went in its favor economically and politically, it did not hesitate for a single moment in labeling such Muslims good and its resident countries friendly nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and such other countries in the world.

It is the same thing which sadly still persists today. Saudi Arabia, which was never a democratic country and has the allegation of destroying hundreds of lives in Yemen by imposing war with its allies on it, and deposing Mohamed Morsi’s first democratically elected government high-handedly in Egypt by conniving with its military commander, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, was always judged as a friendly country by America, and Iran, which never bowed down to the commands of the Americans, was always judged as a rogue nation like North Korea.

These days, a new war of words is going on continuously in the context of the Iran Nuclear Deal scrapped arbitrarily under the pressure of its allies from the Gulf, mainly Saudi Arabia, by the over authoritarian President, Donald Trump, just a few weeks back, who looks hell-bent to destroy the peaceful world order just to impose a new dictate which suits to the American interests only. The trade war and other such soft wars are also going on with other countries like China, India and many other nations.

It is a proven history and fact that America harmed to the world more grievously than it ever benefitted. Its prime objective is just to keep the world unipolar and maintain its hegemony over others either by bullying, beating, abusing or by terrorizing them by direct or indirect attacks. It wants to run its arm factories at the cost of the safety of the millions of other people.

But the question here arises that is there any hope that a new world will emerge where every nation enjoys its own freedom and dignity?

I don’t see it happening in near future, because, most of the rulers look spineless except a few like President of Turkey, Russia, Iran and a few others.

Till now, the so called war on terror has already been destroyed millions of innocent lives. And it will keep going on if America is run by the same kinds of Presidents like Bush and Donald Trump.

Of late, a harsh order has been issued to India also to discontinue the import of Iranian oils. Is it the civilized way to dictate a country like India which is the world’s largest democracy and a friendly country of America? Why India should discontinue if the import of the oil from Iran is in the best interests of the country? Why should India follow every order from the White House like a meek nation?

However, it is the matter of great concern and all democratic loving nations should unite against such cantankerous force which wants to destroy the peaceful world order just to harvest the economic interests best suited to it.
