LUCKNOW:The Mughalsarai Junction will be officially renamed after RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay on Sunday.Deen Dayal Upadhyay was found dead in mysterious circumstances near the Mughalsarai station in February 1968.
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (25 September 1916 – 11 February 1968) was an RSS thinker and co-founder of the political party Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of Bharatiya Janata Party. He became president of the Jana Sangh in December 1967.
The Mughalsarai station comes under Chandauli district and is close to Varanasi city, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mughalsarai is a part of the Chandauli Parliamentary seat which is presently held by UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey.
The Mughalsarai station was one of the busiest corridors during Mughal era which connected east India with the north.The junction was connected to Patna division and later extended till Allahabad division in 1864.
Mughalsarai is also the birthplace of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.The building is being touched up with saffron paint at places and signboards with the new name being put up.
A ceremony for the renaming will see BJP president Amit Shah, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, railway minister Piyush Goyal and MoS railways Manoj Sinha in attendance along with other senior party members.
Ekatmata Express, now set to follow a new route from Lucknow to Mughalsarai, will get the green signal. Railway officials said it will be the first time in the country that an all-woman crew runs a goods train.
