COLOMBO: India needed 34 runs off two overs after Mustafizur Rahman just gave away just 1 run and got the all important wicket of Manish Pandey to turn the tide in Bangladesh’s favour.
India win toss opt to bowl first, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. Unadkat, who came in to replace Siraj, began the proceeding but it was Washington Sundar who gave India their 1st wicket in the 3rd over, dismissing Linton Das.
Skipper Rohit Sharma’s (56 off 42 balls) dismissal set India’s inexperienced middle-order in panic mode and Vijay Shankar’s four dot balls off the 18th over by Mustafizur Rahaman made it very difficult for India.
Karthik played a heroic knock hitting three sixes and two boundaries to score 29 runs in eight balls. However, Karthik had other plans.It would count as one of India’s famous last ball sixes — something that Pakistani legend did against India 32 years back in Sharjah.
He came and bashed 19 runs off Rubel Hossain’s over and then calmly finished the game off in the last over to take India to a victory.
The last six overs of the Bangladesh innings yielded 66 runs — mostly coming from Sabbir’s blade.
