NRC For Assam Is Completely Unbiased, No Need To Panic: Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday that the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) for Assam is completely “Unbiased ” and those whose names are not included should not panic as they will get an opportunity to prove their Indian citizenship.

The Home Minister’s reaction came after the draft NRC was published with the names of about 40 lakh residents of the state not being included.

Even someone whose name is not in the final list can approach the foreigners tribunal, Mr. Singh said. “Some people are unnecessarily trying to create an atmosphere of fear.No misinformation should be spread. This is a draft and not the final list.”

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day following an uproar by the opposition, especially the Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party over the publication of Assam’s National Register of Citizens.

Meanwhile, TMC MP Sougata Roy has given an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the Assam NRC list draft which was released today.

Assam, on Monday, came up with the first draft of its first National Register of Citizens, in which, 2.89 crore people, out of the state’s 3.29 crore population, have been included.
