NRC Is Key To National Security Of India: Amit Shah

The second and final draft of the NRC, which is a list of the state’s citizens, was published on Monday with over 28.9 million names out of 32.9 million applicants in Assam. Names of around 4.07 million applicants did not figure in the document.

NEW DELHI: BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday hit out at the former United Progressive Alliance (UPA) governments, saying the Congress did not have the courage to identify illegal migrants in Assam.

Amit Shah said Rajiv Gandhi had signed the accord on August 14, 1985 after the movement in the State went out of control leading to the death of some protesters.

Addressing media, Shah said that the national security is most important for them and the opposition is politicising it for vote-bank politics. Shah demanded that all political parties must clarify their stand on the NRC issue.

BJP chief Amit Shah targeted the opposition asking them if they care more about the rights of Indians or illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Participating in a discussion on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam in the Rajya Sabha, Shah pointed out that the exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma pointed out how not just Muslims, but people indigenous to Assam, people from Bihar, Bengali speaking people and those from other parts living for generations in Assam were affected by the NRC.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee led the opposition attack against BJP, accusing it of turning “Indians into refugees”.However Mamata Banerjee said that the NRC is being done with political motive.
