CUTTACK: The Modi government completes 4 years in power on Saturday and the Bharatiya Janata Party has planned a fortnight-long programme to mark the occasion.
PM Modi will be addressing a public rally in Cuttack in Odisha to mark the fourth year of his government.
Modi took over as prime minister on May 26, 2014 after the BJP won an overwhelming majority winning 282 seats alone. Patnaik, despite the “Modi-wave” came to power with the strongest ever mandate 2014.
In the simultaneous state and general polls, BJP won 10 of the 147 assembly seats – behind Congress’ 16 – and one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The ruling party has also come up with a new slogan – ‘Saaf Niyat, Sahi Vikas’ – as it attempts to prepare ground for the big test in 2019.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday issued a clarion call for a fight to protect the state’s interest on the Mahanadi, barely 24 hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.
Anti incumbency and pressure from a re-energised BJP in the state has kept the CM on his toes this term.
“We are not fighting just for water, we are fighting for the life of Mahanadi,” said Naveen, throwing a direct challenge to Modi, who the BJD has accused of playing a partisan role on the Mahanadi dispute between Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
