LUCKNOW: World Prosthodontist day was celebrated in the department of Prosthodontics of king George’s ,Medical University on 22nd Jan 2019.
The importance of this department in the field of dentistry was discussed by Head of the Department Prosthodontics Professor Pooran Chand.
On this occasion, Professor Pooran Chand said that the beginning of dental sciences or dentistry has been done by duplicating and replacement of teeth and other related structures.
According to them, all the organs of our body have special significance. Similarly teeth are also have a great importance. The importance of teeth can only be understood by people who lose their teeth.
The taste of food is incomplete without teeth and one cannot bite or chew food properly and it can affect our health. In addition to health, patients without tooth have lack of confidence.
A good smile and health can be obtained from good and healthy teeth, by which the person’s personality and confidence is enhanced.
Prosthodontics department is one of the dental departments developed and designed to solve all these problems. This is the only department which helps in maintaining the patient’s confidence by transplanting or replacing artificial teeth, so that they can smile like before and stay healthy.
Cancer patients whose teeth along with palate or jaw bones have been removed can get a prosthesis. Artificial palate, eye, nose, ear, fingers, hands, feet, tongue (after removal in tongue cancer) can also be made with special techniques. Very fewer people are aware of it.
Appliances are also made for the treatment of snoring and sleep disorder and fixed dentures are also made by various techniques.
Thus the Prosthodontics Department has its own importance in the field of dentistry without which the dentistry is incomplete.
