MYSORE: Mesmerizing Mysore Palace. Truly a jewel in the crown. My inside visit today, the 6th December, after more than 40 years was a moment to get another glimpse which answered some long standing anxieties on its history. One of the ten palaces in the City of Palaces. Spread in a area equal to 18 cricket fields. Sprowling in some 2 lac sq.ft of area. Rebuilt many times and the present structure was rebuilt after getting gutted in 1897, the wedding of Princess Rajyalaxmi. The uncontrolable fire had broken out in the royal kitchen. Completed in 1912 at a cost of Rs.42 lac and was then the first electrified building in India. The value of money equals Rs.40, 000 crore todayStill the palace is used for special functions by the royal dynasty.Tempting to write a full travelogue. Look for inputs, pics and references to be shared shortly if you are interested.
