(In the past article, we knew about the importance of remaining grateful in life. Today, we will see how to do ‘gratitude meditation’)

Once realising that you are in the top 5-10% population of the world in almost each walk of life, it is time to understand what are the benefits of being grateful for everything and in every condition.

Be grateful for everything

Look around yourself. Be grateful for your ability to see. Be grateful for your belongings. Be grateful for your job. Be grateful for your house, as it gives you shelter and protects you from heat, rain and cold. Be grateful for the money at your disposal. Be grateful for your earning capacity. Once being grateful for small things becomes part of your sub-conscious mind, your overall attitude will start seeing positive in every situation. Once you start looking at positivity, negativity will be gradually flushed out of your thinking process. It will help you even at difficult times. When we are happy, we will attract the circumstances, which make us happier. When we have gratitude for our good health, we will start taking care of our body in a better manner.

In some religions or faith, it is a part of their culture that they give thanks at the time of waking up, before eating anything, before going to sleep. It creates positivity in the universe. We all know that everything in the universe is inter-dependent. If we fill the universe with the energy of gratitude, the universe also responds with creating positive energy around us, which benefit us a lot.

Be grateful even during setbacks & sufferings

Though it may seem strange & difficult, but this is necessary. Remember the law of cause & effect (Law of Karma), according to which, we have to bear the consequences of the causes created in the past. If we are suffering, that is due to our own karmic causes. Be thankful that the situation is not worse. I know that there are lots of unfulfilled expectations from life and lots of frustrations in life, for which you want to complain. But remember, when we change the way we think and respond to the circumstances and start being grateful for whatever we have, everything around us start to change. Our lives start to get better & better. Gratefulness should be from bottom of your heart, not from your mouth only.

Gratitude meditation

Before going to sleep, you should start practicing gratitude meditation for 2-3 minutes. If you start doing this before going to sleep, you will notice a sea change in your circumstances within a month. While lying on bed, start taking deep breaths. Now mentally say that I am thankful to Almighty God that I am alive; I am thankful to my parents for giving me birth and good upbringing. Mentally say that I am grateful to the God that

    • I have a home to live
    • I have good spouse and children, who are healthy
    • I have good friends and other relationships
    • I have good earning skills and good job or business
    • I have good finances
    • I have a bed to sleep
    • I have some clothes to wear
    • I can afford the food of my choice
    • I have pure drinking water
    • I have shoes for my feet
    • I have my own conveyance, whether it is car or cycle
    • I have a computer with internet
    • I have the eyes to see the world. I can read the books so that I can learn
    • I can afford travelling with my loved ones during vacations
    • I can afford occasional outings

………. and the list may be never ending as there is no dearth of the things, for which we can be grateful.

Initially, you may require 2 or 3 minutes to be grateful for repeating above phrases mentally but once you start being grateful for everything, gradually, the individual words will start fading away and your gratitude will turn into a deep sense of inner thankfulness for everything. Later, it will take hardly 10 seconds to perform this gratitude meditation, as you will just say mentally, ‘Thank You God for everything’. I believe, this is the most powerful technique on the earth to attract happiness. The only condition is that it should be done by heart, not by mouth only.

(In the next article, we will discuss about a very crucial aspect – ‘The power of tithing’ from a different perspective. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
