(In the past article, we knew about steps in preparing To-Do List. Today we will know about benefits of using online software for preparing To-Do List)

Using online software for preparing To-Do List

NOIDA: These days, internet and your smart phones are flooded with time management tools, giving you options for maintaining your To-Do lists online. It has many added advantages:-

  • You don’t need to carry a paper everywhere.
  • You can access it on any instrument, whether it is your computer or laptop or mobile phone.
  • It helps automatic sequencing of the works hierarchically as per the priority assigned by you.
  • You enjoy benefits of reminder alarms.
  • It is much easier to monitor your progress and strike off and remove the completed tasks.

I would suggest that you use any software to get the above benefits; but still write down the To-Do list for the current day, already arranged in order of priority on paper. It will hardly take one minute to write down the current day’s To-Do list from your software, but it will have added advantage of availability of hard copy in front of you. You can’t imagine right now, what is the positive feeling of striking out a completed task from your physical To-Do list.

Deletion in electronic form cannot provide that much satisfaction. If you are not using any electronic software and are maintaining To-Do list on Excel worksheets, make a copy of your To-Do list in another worksheet; then remove the entries, which do not relate to the works to be done during the day, and sort out your current day’s To-Do list in order of priority; and take a print out for use during the day. Believe me, this will take hardly one or two minutes but you will see the dramatic results within a week.

The choice is yours whether you want to use manual To-Do list or use a software or mobile app for To-Do list. Trying both will show you which works better for you. Just remember, not using To-Do list is not a choice.

Never forget that To-Do list also has its problems. Over a period of time, To-Do list keeps on getting bigger and bigger and starts looking unmanageable. You are not able to find out or decide what to do next, as there are so many ‘A’ priority works at hand. But never ever think of leaving the practice of writing your To-Do list and go back to your old practice of keeping the things in mind.

Remember, writing brings you clarity and give you much better options to choose than keeping the things in mind. Instead see the bigger picture of your life and decide which activities are taking you to the place, where you want to go in life. This will improve your clarity and you will be in a better position to judge, what you are ultimately trying to accomplish in your life. It will tell you that you are really overburdened and there is a need for some delegation or outsourcing for some petty works, which don’t require your personal attention.

One more thing you have to remember. You are going to use To-Do list for making your life easier, not hell. Make your planning as simple as possible. Always remember, you don’t have to become workaholic. You have to just become more organised. That’s it.

(In the next article, I will discuss about methods of prioritisation. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
