Haryana Government’s Relentless Work In Improving The Child Sex Ratio

What is the credibility of the data quoted by leading newspapers & playing with their subscriber’s mind?

NEW DELHI: The recent article in Hindustan Times editorial section is a classic example of misguiding the readers with outdated facts and figures. This particular article has been published on 13, February 2019 in their very eloquent section ‘Our Take’ with a contentious heading ‘Why states must not aspire to be like Haryana’.

The writer of the article was trying to paint the state in a poor light by using old and outdated data of 2011 Census stating Haryana’s child sex ratio 834 Females for every 1000 males. The current data shows 935 females per 1000 males in the recent report by Registrar of Births & Deaths by Govt. of Haryana.

The same figure was embossed by Prime Minister’s Special Address for a programme on Sustainability of ODF National Convention to honour women power, on 12th February, 2019 in Kurukshetra. He apprised the crowd with Haryana Government’s relentless work in improving the child sex ratio post 2014 through his flagship programme, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP).

Apart from the phenomenal improvement in the child sex ratio, Haryana has been ranked recently 4th on Infrastructure Index, it is amongst the few states in India to have almost 100% 12 metalled road connectivity with rural area according to a recent UNDP report. The state is also ranked at 6th out of 32 States/UTs in India with implementation score around 96.95% in ease of doing business exercise as per report titled ‘Assessment of State of Implementation of Business Reforms, September, 2016’. The state Government has taken many path breaking initiatives for easing the regulatory burden on the investors and making the approval processes more transparent and viable.

No doubt that Haryana still has to work on availability of medical infrastructure in villages and low literacy rate. Political parties need to make this as their election agenda points for attracting voters and achieving state’s robust development.
