Lok Sabha Election 2019: 60.93% voter turnout till 6 pm

NEW DELHI: Polling is underway for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections in 51 constituencies spread over seven states, amidst tight security. Voting, which began at 7 this morning, will conclude at 6 in the evening.

Polling is underway at 14  seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, 7 each in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, 5 in Bihar and 4 in Jharkhand.At 1 pm, the voter turnout in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 stood at 41%.

32.27% polling was recorded in Bihar, 11.35% in Jammu and Kashmir, 43.93% in Madhya Pradesh, 42.63% in Rajasthan, 35.15% in Uttar Pradesh, 50.78% in West Bengal and 45.98% in Jharkhand, as per data on Election Commission’s Voter Turnout app.

The UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, are among the key candidates as 51 constituencies across seven states vote today in the fifth phase of national elections.Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has been challenged by Union Minister Smriti Irani for the second time in Amethi.

In Jammu and Kashmir, polling is being held in Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag and Ladakh constituencies.Pulwama, where 40 soldiers died when their convoy was attacked, is also voting today in the third phase of polling for Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag constituency.

So far, Rajnath Singh, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Mayawati, Yashwant Sinha, and Jayant Sinha were spotted casting their votes in their respective polling stations.India’s general election began on April 11 and has seven phases. The voting in all seven phases will end on May 19.

The results of the elections, which are being conducted over seven phases, will be announced on May 23.The NDA won 41 out of the 51 seats in 2014, 27 more than its 2009 tally.
