MUMBAI: Bumble, the women-first social connection app with over 40 million users worldwide, today announced its partnership with award-winning actor, philanthropist and entrepreneur Priyanka Chopra for its upcoming debut in India. Chopra joins Bumble as an advisor and investor and will play an integral role in brand’s expansion into India later this year.“Priyanka is a visionary artist and philanthropist who embodies everything that Bumble stands for, and it’s an absolute honor to announce her as a partner for our launch in India,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of Bumble. “We share a deep and restless passion for equality and empowering young women online in a time when they’re being impacted in such a negative way. We’re all looking forward to what we build together and how we continue to make a safer, kinder and more accountable online world.”
“Women want love, they want friendship and they want to find a career, and that’s the uniqueness of what Bumble delivers — a digital community that encompasses all that, while empowering women to take charge of their lives,” added Chopra. “It’s rare to see a brand with this level of reach and relevance maintain a commitment to their values and mission in a manner that has global impact. I’ve always believed that investing in women is key to social transformation and economic growth, and in working with Whitney and her team over the past year, I’m inspired by the real, positive change Bumble is creating and I’m proud to have the opportunity to contribute to this movement as a partner.”
Bumble and Chopra first began collaborating for the launch of Bumble Bizz in October of 2017. It was then that Chopra and Wolfe Herd realized the potential of joining forces to amplify their philanthropic and humanitarian efforts. From then on, they began architecting a plan to partner and collaborate for Bumble’s rollout into India.
“There are hundreds of millions of young women in India that are part of a larger movement to take control of their lives, and they’re demanding respect and independence,” added Anjula Acharia, Bumble Strategic Advisor and investor, who also manages Priyanka Chopra. “Bumble’s values are beautifully reflective of that movement as their mission is driven to empower young women worldwide and to give Indian woman a non-judgmental, digital neighborhood where they can feel safe and confident as they connect for work, friendship and for love.”
Bumble has prioritized creating a safe platform for female users in India. Over the next few weeks, Bumble will roll out specific features focused on adding a vital layer of protection to Bumble’s safety standards, which already include photo verification and a profile moderation team of over 5,000 people worldwide. Bumble has also localized the user experience with versions of the app available in both Hinglish and Hindi for iOS and Android.
Bumble will officially launch in India this fall after spending the past nine months building its local team, defining a go-to-market strategy, and engaging key partners in market. Large-scale marketing and events hosted by Wolfe Herd and Chopra will kick off in major markets this fall, with sustained activations taking place across a range of other major metropolitan markets.
