Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman To Be Received By IAF Team At Wagah Around Noon

The pilot is likely to be brought by Pakistani authorities from Rawalpindi to Lahore and handed over first to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) under rules of the Geneva Convention.

Abhinandan Varthaman comes from a family that has served the country for generations. Besides his father, his grandfather Simhakutty had served the nation during World War II in the Air Force.

Imran Khan informed the country’s National Assembly that Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman would be released on Friday, the Wing Commander’s family flew out from Chennai to New Delhi.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday welcomed Pakistan’s offer to release Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured when his MiG-21 went down in Pakistan-occupied territory.

Early on Friday morning, the family left from New Delhi to Amritsar and will be present along with Indian armed forces to meet the Wing Commander at Wagah Border.

Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor had told the media on Thursday that the Indian Air Force is happy and looks forward to the return of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

According to the reports, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is likely to be brought to the joint check post after 2 PM.

Government sources said a team of Indian Air Force officials will receive Wing Commander Abhinandan at the Wagah border on Friday evening.
