(In the past article, we knew about the power of self-discipline. Today, we will know about power of laser sharp focus.)
Be focused on your goals
Harry Emerson Fosdick said, “no horse gets anywhere, until he is harnessed. No steam or gas drives anything, until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power, until it is tunnelled. No life ever grows, until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.”
The road to success requires lots of focussed efforts in the form of daily disciplined actions. Most people get overwhelmed with the possibility of facing distractions and obstructions. These are bound to come in your way when you start your journey towards your goals. You have to tap power of GOPTA and focus on your goals. Remember, you have to focus on your strengths, not on your weaknesses. Successful people succeed because they know how to focus on their strengths, while the failures fail due to their focus on their weaknesses.
Focus on the destination, not on obstacles
You have to focus on the destination, not on the obstructions. Here I take an example of driving a car from one place to another. When you drive on the road, what is in your mind – your destination or the obstacles? You want to drive from X place to Y and start journey. Notice that there are buses, trucks, cars, motorcycles, cycles, pedestrians, children, animals, speed breakers, patholes in the road, railway crossings, traffic jams, etc. There are countless distractions, still you don’t focus on distractions, when you start the journey. You only focus on the destination. Focussing on destinations automatically shifts your attention from distractions, which automatically keep passing by and you keep on moving. If you keep on focussing on distractions expected to come en-route, you will never ever start journey from one place to another.
As Henry Ford rightly puts it, “obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”
One of the most powerful techniques to improve your productivity is doing things with laser sharp ‘focus’. In the above example, your sub-conscious mind has been instructed to focus upon the destination. The same theory applies to every goal. You should give precise instructions to your sub-conscious mind regarding your goals, on which you have to focus and see the miracles; as the persons who focus on correct things achieve more than the persons who are not focussed in their efforts.
You must have observed that even your computer slows down when you open lots of application simultaneously. Your mind also has to work upon the thoughts behind every work, you are doing. Therefore, whenever you try to take different works from your brain, it faces fatigue, physical as well as mental. If you reduce the number of works and focus your attention single mindedly at one item of work, your mind will work in a much productive manner.
If you always work with prioritised To-Do lists, you will be able to concentrate upon the task, which is most important for you to do immediately. In the office, you should focus on office work and at home, you should not get excessively worried about problems at office. I would suggest you to start asking yourself that what should be the task, which requires your laser sharp focus for the time being.
