Manipur University In A Total Shutdown For 24 Days

IMPHAL: Students of the Manipur University took out a rally under the leadership of Manipur University Students Union alleging the VC, Professor Adya Prasad Pandey as inefficient and demanding him to be removed from his post on Friday at the university. 

The students out the rally chanting slogans “Go back AP Pandey, Long Live MU”  from the Coffee Corner(a common spot where students of the university hangout in free time) of the University amidst strict vigil by the police personnel to prevent any untoward incidents. 

Since 30th May last month students of the university started taking out agitations demanding the removal of the VC. From the start of the agitation the administrative block  remains shut. All semester examination for different departments which was supposed to start from the second week of this month were all postponed indefinitely until the imbroglio ends. The agitations by the students has entered 24 days since its start.

On the other hand Manipur University Staff Association(MUSA) has staged a Sit-in demanding speedy solution to the ongoing issues at the university to save the career of the students. MUSA held the Sit-In displaying various placards that read “Solve the conflict, Save the life of Students, Save University” etc.. at the Monumental Turning Point in the University. The association also demanded the Governor and the Chief Minister of Manipur to look into the issue at the earliest.

Meanwhile, It is also reported that the chief minister of the state, Nongthombam Biren had met Hosur and discussed the current situation of Manipur University at CM Secretariat.

Members of MUSU, upon invitation by Joint Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, G.C. Hosur who is on a state visit to inspect the University’s crises met him at Hotel Classic Grande. Members of MUSU placed their demand before Hosur during the meeting. After listening to their grievances, Joint Secretary, Hosur didn’t mention anything about resolving the crises but only instructed the the members to take measures for bringing normalcy in the academic atmosphere of the university.
