“REFLECTION”

By: Manjari Chaturvedi

There’s a person
Standing in front of me,
Who looks lost, ashen, broken
And all the other disappointing things there can be.
Standing there, as tall as a pole
And as strong as steel,
Giving the brightest smile
When asked, “How you feel?”
I look at the eyes and
See the pieces of a broken soul.
A soul that was once content,
A soul that was once whole.
I look at the lips that utter
The sweetest of things,
But tremble as the tears roll down the cheeks
‘Cuz of the memories that pull the heart’s strings.
I look at the frustration
Behind that smile.
I look at the tears
in those gleaming eyes.
Be honest, be strong!
Why are you crying, what’s wrong?
You seem sad, You seem so weak.
It was too late when I realized
That person was me.
